Shobha Broota (b. 1943) is a New Delhi-based Indian artist known for her meditative abstraction inspired by the resonance of classical Indian ragas. Born into an artistic family, she received her diploma in painting from the College of Art, New Delhi, in 1964. Her early practice explored portraits, figurative and abstract painting, printmaking, etching, and woodcuts before evolving into a deeply contemplative visual language. Broota approaches painting as a form of meditation, believing that the blank canvas should be met with a clear and uncluttered mind. Her celebrated works use minimal colour to express subtle variations and philosophical ideas. Exhibitions such as A Path Beyond, Edge of Infinity, and Music of the Spheres reflect her continuing exploration of abstraction and mixed materials. She has received national awards and fellowships.
