Sakti Burman is a Paris-based Indian artist whose work brings together European and Indian imagery. Born in Calcutta, he studied at the Government College of Arts and Crafts before attending the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris. His distinctive practice is characterized by pointillism and a marbling effect, which he discovered accidentally and later developed through painting and printmaking. Influenced by Italian Renaissance frescoes, particularly those of Giotto, Piero della Francesca, and Simone Martini, Burman incorporated their monumentality and texture into his work. Indian mythology, popular culture, Ajanta cave paintings, birds, animals, dream imagery, and mythological figures frequently appear in his surreal, figurative compositions. Burman divides his time between his homes and studios in Paris and New Delhi.
