Lalu Prasad Shaw

Lalu Prasad Shaw (born 1937) is an Indian artist known for his paintings, graphics, and distinctive figurative style. Born in Suri, Bengal, he earned a diploma in painting from the Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta, in 1959. Trained in Company School art, Kalighat pats, and Ajanta frescoes, he developed a unique visual language influenced by his teachers Gopal Ghose, Rathin Maitra, and Maniklal Banerjee. In the 1970s, Shaw explored graphics and abstract, geometric forms, particularly through lithography. His paintings often portray men, women, and children with a quiet, nostalgic character, drawing inspiration from Mughal miniatures. He has also explored landscapes combining urban and rural elements. Shaw has received several honours, including awards from the West Bengal Lalit Kala Akademi, Lalit Kala Akademi, and Birla Academy.
