Sachida Nagdev

Sachida Nagdev (1939–2017), born in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, was a distinguished modern Indian artist whose work blended abstraction with the visual language of miniature painting and Indian aesthetics. Inspired by prehistoric rock paintings, traditional architecture, sculptures, temples, and the cultural landscapes of Malwa, he developed a distinctive artistic vocabulary rooted in colour and memory. He studied under archaeologist and artist Dr. V. S. Wakankar at Bharti Kala Bhavan, Ujjain, before earning a Diploma in Art from Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay, in 1961. Nagdev received the Amrita Shergil Fellowship and Government of India fellowships and exhibited extensively in India and abroad. His works addressed themes ranging from cultural traditions and travel to historical events such as the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
