Rekha Rao (b. 1947) is a pioneering Indian contemporary artist recognized for her thoughtful, abstract paintings that carry deep symbolic meaning. She was introduced to the art world at a young age by her father, the celebrated painter K.K. Hebbar. Working primarily with oil and acrylic, Rao builds rich layers of color, texture, and shape to create deeply engaging visual experiences. Her color palette varies naturally, moving from soft, earthy tones to bright, glowing shades. Instead of direct representation, she uses symbolic imagery, such as subtle human shapes, animal outlines, geometric patterns, and expressive brushstrokes, to guide viewers into a quiet space of personal reflection.
