R. M. Palaniappan

Rm. Palaniappan is a Chennai-based Indian artist and primarily a printmaker whose practice also encompasses drawing, acrylic painting, photography, and digital imagery. Born in Devakottai, Tamil Nadu, he received a Diploma in Fine Arts from the Government College of Art and Craft, Madras, in 1980, followed by a post-diploma in industrial design with a specialisation in ceramics. His works often incorporate scientific syntax, including diagrammatic notations, symbols, maps, and grids. Aerial views of the earth, inspired by his experience of seeing the landscape from a flight, frequently appear alongside imagery of flying machines influenced by his interest in Second World War cinema. Palaniappan has received international grants and residencies and has served as an advisor to Bharat Bhavan, Bhopal.
