Paramjeet Singh was born and brought up in Jamshedpur, present-day Jharkhand. Initially encouraged by his parents to pursue architecture, his interest in art began after a friend introduced him to a local art class. He later moved to New Delhi to study at the College of Art. After graduating, he worked for an advertising agency for two years before returning to the College of Art as a lecturer. Discussions with printmaker Jagmohan Chopra introduced him to silkscreen printing, which became his preferred medium for its smoothness and scope for experimentation. He also explored woodcuts, linocuts, and etchings. His prints create an organic harmony between elements of nature through carefully blended colours. After three decades of silkscreen practice, he shifted to acrylic and oil painting in 2000. He received the Lalit Kala Akademi National Award in the 1970s and the Kala Vibhushan Award in 1988.
