Neeraj Bakshi

Neeraj Bakshi (b. 1969) is known for his small-sized, lyrical graphic poems, which explore themes of human connection, nostalgia, violence, and suffering. Initially inspired by landscapes, his artistic focus gradually shifted towards animals, with whom he developed a deep connection during childhood. His works draw upon psychology, science, folklore, mythology, and the natural landscapes of his homeland. Bakshi works across different mediums, using watercolour and gouache to depict animals merging with one another against nostalgic landscapes. His poetic compositions remain open to interpretation, reflecting personal memories and experiences. Bakshi studied at Kashmir University in 1992, before leaving his village due to the ongoing violence, an experience that deeply informs the emotional and nostalgic character of his artistic practice.
