Natesh (b. 1960) is a multidisciplinary artist known for his prolific paintings and drawings, as well as his work in theatre, lighting design, installations, and actor training. The son of Tamil writer and playwright N. Muthuswamy, Natesh was encouraged to draw from childhood, and his artistic practice reflects his literary and theatrical environment. His drawings are spontaneous, expressive, and often appear to emerge from a single continuous line, exploring human, animal, and organic forms. His visual vocabulary includes playful and theatrical imagery alongside themes of death, sexuality, and extinction. Influenced by teacher-artists Chandru and R. B. Baskaran, Natesh developed a confident and expressive line. In his paintings, however, he often conceals this linearity beneath intense, Fauvist-inspired colour.
