K. G. Subramanyan (1924–2016) was an Indian artist and a prominent figure in modern Indian art. Born in Kuthuparamba, Kerala, he studied at Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, under Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee, and Ramkinkar Baij. He later taught painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Baroda, and Kala Bhavan, Santiniketan. His artistic practice drew from myths, fables, traditional narratives, folk art, and Indian court paintings, explored through diverse mediums including paintings, terracotta reliefs, murals, and illustrations. Subramanyan received several honours, including the National Award, Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Vibhushan in 2012. He was also Professor Emeritus at Visva-Bharati University.
