Jagadish Dey

Jagdish Dey’s art explores the surreal coexistence of reality and dreams. His early works featured transformed, fantastical landscapes defined by ethereally suspended, cloud-like forms. He later transitioned to figurative art, capturing the intricate, musical moods of men and women within mystic, dreamlike sequences. A recurring motif in his work is the flying female figure, creating a sense of harmony between the human form and its surroundings. Peacocks also appear frequently, serving as symbolic means of communication between subjects. Dey graduated from the School of Art, Delhi Polytechnic, in 1963 and taught at the College of Art, New Delhi, from 1965 to 2002. His career includes AIFACS and Sahitya Kala Parishad awards, an HRD Ministry Senior Fellowship, and the Lalit Kala Akademi National Academy Award.
