Gopi Gajwani

Gopi Gajwani (b. 1938) is a versatile Indian contemporary artist whose extensive career spans abstract painting, graphic design, illustration, cartooning, and filmmaking. Born in Sindh before the Partition, he graduated in Graphic Design from the Delhi School of Art in 1959. Gajwani is highly regarded for his large-scale canvases, which are entirely devoid of definite forms or shapes, choosing instead to communicate through rich texture, color, and expressive brushwork. Working primarily in oil, alongside watercolors, Chinese ink, and acrylics, his central objective is to explore the visual impact of his colour palette. Every part of his canvas works in harmony, inviting viewers into an immersive sensory experience shaped entirely by the language of color.
