Gopal Samantray was born in the village of Adhanga, Orissa, India, in 1976. He completed his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from B.K. College of Art, Odisha, in 2002 and 2004, respectively. Having spent his formative years in the forests of Odisha, Samantray developed a deep connection with nature and wildlife, which is reflected in his artistic practice. Through striking depictions of displaced animals, he highlights humankind’s apathy and indifference towards nature and other living beings. His artworks have been presented in numerous group and solo exhibitions across India. Samantray’s works have also been showcased at the prestigious India Art Fair, contributing to his presence in the contemporary Indian art scene.
