Chittaprosad Bhattacharya (1915–1978) was an Indian political artist known for his powerful drawings, prints, cartoons, and illustrations addressing social and political realities. Born in Naihati, West Bengal, he became politically engaged during his student years and rejected the classical approach of the Bengal School. Working primarily in watercolour, pen and ink, linocut, and woodcut, he developed a direct and expressive visual language. During the Bengal Famine of 1943, he documented the suffering he witnessed across the region, resulting in his landmark publication Hungry Bengal, which was suppressed by British authorities. He later settled in Bombay and continued exploring political and humanitarian themes. In his later years, he increasingly focused on world peace and initiatives supporting impoverished children.
