Pramod Ganpatye (b. 1953) developed his artistic practice from early illustrative work for magazines and book covers, as well as collaborations with fashion designers, before turning toward a more personal artistic expression. Initially drawn to abstraction, he later shifted to figurative art, focusing on detailed representations of the human form. Between 1984 and 1991, he entered a period of creative silence and experimentation, during which drawing became central to his practice. His figures, influenced by the cultural character of the Malwa region, are often robust, imposing, and dynamic, conveying both physical strength and movement. He frequently works with single colours or restrained combinations of two colours. Among his influences are Picasso, Van Gogh, Cézanne, German Impressionists, and Indian artists including Arpita Singh, Rameshwar Broota, Jogen Chowdhury, and Himmat Shah. Ganpatye considers social concerns central to his art.
