Jivaji Bhikaji Dikshit was a painter inspired by the work of Raja Ravi Varma and known for his portraits of saints and religious figures. Born on 11 May 1907 in Sangli, he developed an early interest in painting despite his father’s wish that he pursue law. He studied at Sir J.J. School of Art, Mumbai, graduating in 1932, where he trained in landscape and portrait painting alongside artists including J.D. Gondhalekar, Gopal Deuskar, and Jambhalikar. After graduation, Dikshit worked with the film company Prabhat from 1934 to 1939 under art director S. Fattelal, later joining Saraswati Cinetone and Navyug. His paintings were valued for their keen observation and spiritual quality. His work also included a watercolour inspired by Ravi Varma’s Yashoda Krishna.
