Anil Kumar Bodwal is a contemporary Indian artist whose practice combines close realism with unexpected, often dreamlike juxtapositions. Working across oil, acrylic, charcoal, mixed media, and fibreglass, he renders ordinary objects, figures, and situations with precision before placing them in unusual visual contexts that introduce humour, ambiguity, and social observation. His compositions begin with the familiar but shift subtly away from reality, giving his paintings a distinctive narrative quality where visual wit and commentary emerge without becoming overtly illustrative. Bodwal also works in fibreglass sculpture, extending his interest in form and visual displacement into three-dimensional practice, as presented at the Samanvay Artists’ Camp in Lucknow. He received the National Award at the 58th National Exhibition of Art, Lalit Kala Akademi, in 2017, and exhibited solo at Shridharani Gallery, New Delhi, in 2024.
